Mindful Self Compassion

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) offers practical, use-anywhere skills and knowledge to help us in pain or difficulty.

Classes and retreats are offered in-person and online to:

  • soften your attitude towards others and towards yourself, even when you have made a mistake or let somebody down.

  • practice handling difficult emotions with more strength and ease.

  • treat yourself more like a good friend, easing habits of criticism and blame.

  • discover the transformative powers of your own generous spirit that can lift you up and sustain those around you.

We practice choosing how open or closed our heart needs to be. We were all born with open hearts. Through our lives, we learn to guard and protect our hearts. For some of us, our protections, though fierce, may no longer be needed. These walls may be in our own way when we want to be more connected, more honest, more kind.

Combining mindfulness and compassionate practice, the Mindful Self-Compassion program was developed by researcher Kristin Neff, (www.Self-Compassion.org), and psychologist Christopher Germer, (www.MindfulSelfCompassion.org). Their research shows that self-compassion enhances emotional well-being, life satisfaction, optimism and social connectedness. This program has been shown to increase happiness. So, yay!

MSC has also been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, emotional avoidance and depression. Self-compassion is strongly associated with a reduction in feelings of shame. It has also been connected to better physical health.
